ECW Hardcore Reunion 2009 in PA - Flashback a Decade!

Post by WOODMO » December 2nd, 2019, 11:43 pm

I feel like this event is referenced quite often, but the report and attendance of this show predated a lot of our current members, so I wanted to throw together a quick flashback report. This show took the Marked Out crew to Pennsylvania for this assemblage of ECW talent, many of which were completely fresh and unearthed at the time.

The super ticket was a reasonable price, my memory says somewhere in the $150 range. The real value came though when the event began, because it was the single most laid back con ever. There was zero staff seated with any talent, and you essentially just gave them whatever you had and they signed it. I remember Lanza throwing card after card at Sandman, and it was just a free for fall. I remember Axl Rotten breaking wewantflair's camera by accident, I remember Max taking blurry photos for Lanza, and many more hilarious moments.

Photo wise, I took solos and group ops with many, just because you could basically get whatever you wanted. Some of the group shots include Tommy Dreamer and Beaulah, Tommy Dreamer and Sandman, bWo, Danny Doring and Roadkill, Justin Credible and Joey Styles, Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney (RIP to both), Big Sal & Nunzio and Shane Douglas and Francine.

Solo shot wise I got a lot of the group people individual and other ECW legends like Tommy, Beulah, Sandman, Raven, Justin Credible, etc, but also many rare names at least at the time, like Chris Cheti, Joel Gertner, Mikey Whipwreck etc.

Autograph wise, I just had an ECW Magazine WWE put out, and my Encyclopedia which was my project at the time.

I hope some of you enjoy this, whether it brought back memories or showed something new from before your time. I will attempt more of these kind of things in the future.

Was this one of those Blaustein events where he could not have made a dime off of?

Surprisingly no, though his cons will need to be flashback reported on as well, those were insane. But if memory and some of my candid photos serve me, I think this was put on by a promoter Wrestling Marx, which may or may not be still operational? Some folks on here would know their status better than I do.

I see no way these guys made profit. Granted most of these ECW guys were local, still worked Indy shows at the time, and were in many cases obscure, but still I just don't see how this made any money.

One of my favorite conventions. No way they made money. I was super pissed cause I bought a bunch of extras and everyone was mooching everything that day.

After nobody took our tickets for extras, we went to the window and said we couldn't use them, and they refunded us. Paid only for the super ticket and averaged, for me, about 3 extras per person.
