Nikolai Volkoff tribute

Post by Jason1980s » August 3rd, 2018, 3:52 pm

As a few of you may know I was personal friends with Nikolai. I first was introduced to Nikolai through Jimmy Valiant (who I met traveling through Virginia to see family). We became fast friends and it has been a true joy to know him, to love him and for him to love me.

The last few days have been some of the toughest but I am so glad he got to live an amazing, happy and healthy life. The goodness of the time we were together shows me the richness I have had in my own life.

I just wanted to say thanks to the fans. In all sincerity he appreciated every fan. He spoke to many of them as if they were long time friends and some he even kept in touch with over the years. He had a stack of fan business cards in his wallet. He would do the same thing with people he met at stores he shopped like grocery store, pool store, hardware store. He just cared so much about people. At autograph shows, he didn't just want to talk with you about wrestling, he wanted to know who you are, where you come from, what you did for a living and what types of hobbies you enjoyed.

He loved every wrestler in the business from the biggest hall of famer to the newest independent guy at a show. Every wrestler knew him and thought so highly of him. He was grateful to every promoter for hosting him at autograph signings and matches. From the guys who hosted packed crowds to the ones who had like a dozen fans show up. He kept busy almost, if not all, every Saturday at autograph shows over the years.

Most importantly, he was a good friend. He was a better friend than the best friend. He went well above and beyond above and beyond what a best friend could be. I can only hope my friends would see me in a such a positive light as a friend to them as he was to me.

Again, it's been a tough few days. I appreciate a few of you guys reaching out to me with such warmth and support to check on me. I spent a lot of time with Nikolai and we took a lot of photos and each photo is a story and a memory. I want you all to think of him in happy times and wanted to share this collage I made of him. Majority of them are from autograph shows and gives you photo proof of just how much the autograph signing circuit meant to him.

Great stuff! Funny seeing him wear a John Cena shirt.
