Why buy the 4K discs when they will surely either be re-released or decrease in price by the time you get a good 4K tv?

I'm buying fairly low price. Not rushing

Even if that's true, there are still inevitable re-releases and price reductions. Almost everything (aside from some stuff that might go OOP) will either drop in price or get re-released. There is literally no reason to buy 4K discs without a player and a TV. It's not like blu-ray where they are releasing limited stuff that will go out of print and skyrocket in price. Everything released on UHD is mainstream.

What do you suggest then? Buying the non-4K blu?

I'm also not upgrading what I have. For instance I didn't get the first Reeves Superman on 4K because I have the blu ray boxset (got the Supergirl blu to go with it)

Don’t buy anything that isn’t archival quality if you can’t enkou it. You’re always talking about piracy anyway so there’s no incentive to buy any discs at all.

Sometimes it's not easy finding something in best quality possible. Also if something is cheap enough and I really like it, I buy rather than pirate.

Not 4K, but tried looking for the 2 volumes of Woody Woodpecker and Friends DVDs via "alternate" means and couldn't find them. So now I gotta buy them (luckily they are not OOP)

Look at the list of cartoons on these, Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and more!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Woody ... Collection

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Woody ... :_Volume_2

From the research I've done on those the transfers on these aren't the greatest as they didn't use prime prints. But they are still the best versions of all these cartoons. Also, the first volume had some nasty DVNR applied (though after Internet outcry they didn't apply DVNR in volume 2). And as far as censorship goes, only a single cartoon in both those volumes slipped in with a censored scene (Toyland Premiere).

You switched from talking about blockbuster 4K discs to obscure cartoon DVDs. Buying rare stuff or stuff that has the potential to go out of print makes some sense, logically (if one is into watching old cartoons, I suppose). My original post was about buying new release UHD discs, which is just a waste.

Yeah, I just got a 4K UHD TV but still need to get a player (probably next weekend). I'm debating what to do with a lot of my old blu rays. I probably won't re-purchase a movie unless i reallllyyyyy love it

4K is a waste. Dont need it to enjoy media. Human eye can barely see difference in a regular sized room, unless you've got a 70-inch TV.

I thought that but, yeah, it's a biggggg difference for me (my TV was also a little older). It's a night and day different for me, personally.
